- Kind of interesting article, but it misses the most obvious answer: pot.
Cigarettes (and tobacco) have never been less popular in America, and the article (barely) acknowledged that. It completely failed to mention that, at the same time, marijuana has never been more popular.
Any intelligent person might have surmised from those two simple facts that an explosion of popularity in ash trays and other accessories might have something to do with the second fact ... but the author never even realized it was a fact at all.

I don't think its right. The author is not wrong, there has been a resurgence of smoking tobacco. Anecdotally, I see it a lot more pretty mush outside any bar, club, party. And not just vapes, cigarettes. It's cool again, as are fancy accessories for it

And that's coming from the CDC (ie. people with a strong interest in saying smoking is a problem).
- lol @ buying an ashtray just use an old can from canned food its made of metal, and can be bent or drilled as needed
- I also find couches quite decadent, when a similar effect can be gained by piling old rags in the corner.
- thats funny and true, but rags dont functionally replace a couch... but a reused food can does fully replace the function of an ashtray. the rags have no structure, and will be very bad for ur body/postuds unless u use them as building material, for a actual unit of furniture thia might not be a terrible idea as most commercial furniture is all synthetics and glues and various chemicalz which will off gas in your living space. a couch made from old cotton rags and wood, wouldnt contain all those chems. A fire retardant might be worth the health implications tho.
ashtrays are usually what ppl make in crafts when they dont know how to make anything else... ashtrays/bowls/vases
- We've still got a crate full of engraved ashtray's lovingly made from various sizes of naval gun shells; "prizes" my father won during his service time taking out most comers in open sight target shooting ship V ship "friendlies".
Largely unused, he doesn't drink alcohol and has never smoked.
